Keep politics out of the Conè affair I hear some say..... What a load of Victorian powdered dolls shite ( Poppycock ) ! We use the cone to both celebrate and share our Internationally known Sense of humour. Just as we ought to but lets not forget whose head it sits upon and what sits on his head.... 1. Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington was one of the leading military and political figures of the 19th century. The statue in Glasgow depicting him mounted on a horse resides on Royal Exchange Square. 2. The Holy Humble Helpers that be traffic cones were invented by Charles Scanlon in 1940 with a patent being granted in 1943 and designed to divert human traffic. I would assume such proposals included local and national discussions and policy making. Politics is clearly already steeped within both statue and cone. Question to those suggesting we keep politics out of the cone affair........ Do you really mean to suggest we should keep other peoples political ideologies from the statue that freezes your own in time ? Its just that its ma cone and statue too. Heres hoping that tomorrows Glasgow and tomorrows Scotland is a wee bit more tolerant of others and holds a less thinly veiled bigoted outlook on life, culture and decision making.
