Keeping Her Present: In Memory of My Mother If you knew my mother, Facebook, you know that one of the greatest things she did while here was give. In fact, she gave her last more often than not...with a smile...happily...because she wanted to, not because she had to. It was her God-given gift, the gift of giving! After her transition some months ago, several things crossed my mind on how to keep her present. My grandbaby was born six weeks before she passed over. He doesnt know her. My children grew up seeing or hearing from her every day of their lives. They need to feel her. She is my mother. I miss her. This is not a sad post, so dont take yourself there, Facebook. One of the three things I decided to do was to pull a name for her at our annual Thanksgiving dinner. It is our tradition that we pull a name on that day and give the gift on Christmas. This thanksgiving, I announced to my family that I would place their names in a separate bag from the general bag. This bag would be the one in honor of my mother. The name that comes out would receive a gift from me in her name and her honor on Christmas after all other gifts had been exchanged. The gift would have to be uniquely special, representing something about my mother and the person at the same time. It also had to be specially arranged and wrapped. I found exactly what I needed this year at Kustom Kreations, so I really must thank owner Kimberly Evans Williams for taking her time, being patient with me and assisting in finding what I wanted, right down to the packaging! Well guess what Facebook! The person to receive the very first gift at the very first pulling for this new tradition was my niece, Latiya Rivers! Some of you might know her as Texas. She wanted it to be her, and so it was! Talia is the second child to my deceased sister, Dannie Jean Rivers. Help me give another big and hearty Merry Christmas to my niece, Facebook!
