Keeping your community pharmacy: Why you shouldn’t make the - TopicsExpress

Keeping your community pharmacy: Why you shouldn’t make the switch – bigger is NOT always better: As changes in healthcare are nearly impossible to keep up with, it seems the least you can do is stay on top of your own healthcare needs. • Looking at what type of insurance coverage you need and can afford • Choosing doctors that can both treat you and are covered (or “in-network”) by your insurance provider • Making sure the medicines you are prescribed are covered by your insurance plan. Where do you go when you need advice about your medications? It can take weeks to get in to see your primary care doctor, and as convenient as urgent care clinics are (especially after hours), they aren’t as familiar with you and your medical history. That’s where the value of choosing a local pharmacy comes in. While I can’t speak for all community (or locally owned) pharmacies, I can speak for the one I would proudly send any friend or family member in the Montevallo area to – Montevallo Drug. I know that when I walk in with my prescription and hand it to Mr. Bill Ford (owner/pharmacist), he is going to take his time and make sure I understand the new medicine I am taking and why, he will take the time to look over my medication history and point out possible interactions I need to be aware of. I can also be completely confident that if I give him a prescription for an expensive drug, he will make suggestions and personally call my doctor to see about a cheaper alternative that is just as effective. It’s personalized service that makes all the difference, and it’s what sets local pharmacies, like us, apart from large chain stores.
