Keeping your vehicle well maintained is important all year round but particularly so in winter. TOP TIPS in preparation for cold, wet, icy and dangerous driving conditions: 1. check all exterior lights are working correctly and wiper blades are in good condition; 2. car battery - the most common cause of breakdown (NB: your local garage should be happy to check this for you); 3. coolant level should be between minimum and maximum but the strength should also be checked (the coverage should be checked as part of a routine service). Ensure that the correct procedure is followed when renewing antifreeze as it must be bled out properly etc; 4. tyres: check treads and for any defects 5. screenwash should be of good quality and provide protection down to -10c. 6. air-con is the quickest and most effective way of keeping the screen demisted. The a/c gas dissipates over time and should be topped up every couple of years.
