Kelvin Smythe: --- Auckland Festival of Education is a glittering cover for something very ugly networkonnet.co.nz/index.php?section=latest&id=403 Teachers march for children. Will you be there? I will: networkonnet networkonnet.co.nz/index.php?section=latest&id=379 Dear reader Congratulations to Phil Harding and NZPF with their latest communication. The Auckland Festival of Education, I’m pleased to say, was something of a million dollar flop. But I want to reiterate the crucial message in the Festival posting: Cognition and Core are being lined up to privatise education based on the clusters. Overseas firms are being lined up to assist in this. Once the executive principal is in place and the cluster principals are under control, close to full privatisation will ensue. (Cognition and Core were once friends of teachers; no longer – they are now friends of an unheeding government, and your potential oppressors). The collaboration talked about is the collaboration of a chain gang. We are one step from an education tragedy. It is up to you and your representatives. And northerners, try to get to the march this Saturday. Queen Elizabeth Square at 11 a.m. before marching up Queen Street. I’ll be driving up from Cambridge for the event with my eldest grandchild (all part of the Shadbolt education). And Wellingtonians you have it good – also on this Saturday: Pasifika band, children’s choir, and kapa haka – and no walking. That’s at parliament at 1 p.m. Do re-read the Auckland Festival of Education posting. Best wishes Kelvin
