Kent Masterson Brown to speak at 151st Anniversary of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address on Wednesday, November 19th at 10:00 a.m. View the event via live stream here: https://youtube/watch?v=NQoI799g5Uo The Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania, Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg College, and the Gettysburg Foundation are pleased to announce that the Dedication Day events of November 19, 2014 will feature Kent Masterson Brown as the keynote speaker. This ceremony, held at the Soldiers’ National Cemetery in Gettysburg, will mark the 151st anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. Brown is author of the biography of Lt. Alonzo Cushing, a West Point graduate who died in the Battle of Gettysburg at the age of 22, and the recipient of a Medal of Honor on November 6, 2014, 151 years later. Brown has authored several books on Gettysburg, was the first Chairman of the Gettysburg National Military Park Advisory Commission, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Gettysburg Foundation. At 10:00 a.m., the day’s events will begin with the Dedication Day Program at the rostrum in the Soldiers’ National Cemetery, followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Soldiers’ National Monument. This year 50 members of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier will be participating in the program. Lincoln portrayer James Getty will recite the Gettysburg Address and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will hold a naturalization ceremony for sixteen citizen candidates. Since 1938 the Lincoln Fellowship has been commemorating November 19th in Gettysburg. In 1946 it was officially declared Dedication Day by a joint resolution from the Senate and the House of Representatives, recommending that the “address be read throughout the United States and its possessions, on our ships at sea and wherever the American flag flies.” Past speakers include Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, Tom Ridge, John Hope Franklin, Shelby Foote, Adlai Stevenson, Carl Sandburg, Colin Powell, Jack Kemp, Stephan Lang, Richard Dreyfuss, Sam Donaldson, Sandra Day O’Connor, Ken Burns, Tom Brokaw, and Steven Spielberg.
