Kentucky Reverts to Form Hopes that Alison Lundergan Grimes, - TopicsExpress

Kentucky Reverts to Form Hopes that Alison Lundergan Grimes, who emphasizes the middle name that comes from her machine Democrat daddy, might defeat Mitch McConnell are waning. For the first time in many months a published poll has McConnell ahead, albeit by 1 point. Though the sample size is low, this reflects a steady erosion in relative support for Grimes, from a 4 point lead to a 1 point lead, now to a 1 point deficit. That is particularly worrisome since McConnell will get some boost after winning the GOP primary when hes relieved of fending off attacks from the right. I dont think this surprises anybody. Grimes could not count on winning a US Senate election simply by not being the unpopular incumbent, but that is precisely what she has done. The only controversial issue on which she has staked out any clear position at all is coal, and her pro-coal rhetoric is both phony and guaranteed to drive away the kind of youth and progressive support that Grimes needs to have any chance of defeating McConnell. In short, her position on coal kills her campaign and will continue to do so until it is corrected. There was a chance to defeat Mitch McConnell in 2014, but Grimes seems intent on demonstrating that the chance evaporated when Ashley Judd was unceremoniously pushed out of the race. realclearpolitics/epolls/2014/senate/ky/kentucky_senate_mcconnell_vs_grimes-3485.html
