Kenya Universities Staff Union (Kusu) and Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) to down their tools starting today even after receiving a court order terming the strike illegal. The strike seeks to compel the public universities administrations to release Ksh 2.2 billion. The unions assert that the money was released by the treasury but was misused by the university authorities on unrelated expenses much to the chagrin of lecturers and staff. The strike could adversely affect learning for 500,000 students in all the public universities.
