Kenya Women footballs future termed bleak MYSAs youth programs director Maqulate Onyango has warned that a dark cloud hovers over the future of Kenya’s women football. Speaking toESPN, Maqulate criticized the current office holders in the Football Kenya Federation [FKF] who she said have little or no interest in women’s football matters. She insisted that the situation is unlikely to change any time soon if the same leaders who have been in the federation for long without anything tangible benefits to show. -My girls dont have a structured national team. So what do we have to look up to? Nothing. And it comes down to the national federation. The people who are working at the national federation are the people who have the money to get there, she said. Maqulate lamented that women footballers have nothing to smile about as there is no hope in women football from the leadership. -The leaders dont have the skills to mobilize and bring the girls into that structure. So they keep on recycling leaders who have never done anything for the girls, but because they have money they stay therem she added. Onyango is in the US attending a year long Global Sports Mentoring Program. The GSMP was started by the U.S. Department of State andESPNto pair emerging leaders from around the world with American female executives in the sports industry. Its goal is to create a network of women and girls who strive to create positive change in their home communities through the power of sports. Onyango is the Mathare Youth Sports Association programs director and also a match commissioner in the Kenyan Premier League.
