Kenya airport is being expanded by Chinese company CATIC and Wu yi for a cost of ten billion , a 1.2 trillion railway construction is being done by China Road and Bridge Cooperation company , 17 billion southern bypass road is under construction by Wu yi the largest retail shopping mall in East africa and the second largest in Africa Garden City is under construction by Sinohydro cooperation the LAPSET lamu port project is being undertaken by china communications and construction company for 16billion The hazina trade centre poised to be one of the tallest building in Nairobi with 39 floors which will be built over nakumat lifestyle will be constructed by the chinese Jiangxi cooperation Various real estate projects in kenya are also being contracted by the chinese These are projects which should interest every Chinese speaker in Kenya because they involve lots of employment opportunities for translation and interpretation and many chances to work with the Chinese people my advise to student of Chinese language would be to find out more information about these and similar projects and investments by Chinese people and get to know where they are and if possible if there are employment opportunities available ,if they have vacancies it pays well to work with such big companies if they do not have a vacancy usilale nyumbani chinese people are businessmen offer to be an intern on a lower pay even if all you will get is transport allowance or something small for upkeep take it,working with chinese people will help you know their business etiquette and give you a chance to practise your Chinese, some of you have been to china others have a level 5 and you think you are hot ,i have bad news for you no one is that hot if he is currently not being sought for from where he is ,you have a lot to learn most of us have learnt Chinese for 2 years tops the Chinese people have learnt it for over 15 years and you still occasionally meet a Chinese who cant speak fluent mandarin or who cant speak putonghua at all ,my greatest message here is learn everyday the minute you think you have learnt enough and dont need more is when others will pass you and take a job you have always dreamed of,this opportunities shouldnt bypass us as Chinese speakers in Kenya i have been to several of this companies and now they are bringing in CHINESE translators! WHY??? Kenyans dont present themselves or the few that do cant keep up with the pace ,let us show them we have something to put on the table with our language with our skills and above all the ability to learn more
