Kenyans and Obsession with Land: It is difficult to understand - TopicsExpress

Kenyans and Obsession with Land: It is difficult to understand how a Nation and her people can be so obsessed with one item: Land... From the vicious precolonial battles....to the subjugation by the British... Then the bloody Mau Mau... Then came the looting of White Highlands and Beach plots disguised as Willing Buyer Willing Seller arrangements in the immediate post-independent Kenya...the vicious factional wars of KANU 1964-1967 with spillover effects running into 1978 Then the Land-buying companies of the 1970s with prominent ones in the Rift Valley, Central and Coastal parts of Kenya... Then came the dishing of Public Land for Schools, Hospitals, Roads, Forests to Nyayo men in the 1980s to early 2000... The vicious 2007/08 PEV had land as a bitter underlying theme... Land in Kenya has probably been at the center of more fraud, theft and death of many kenyans than any other resource. While all this is happening, we are only fighting over about 1/3rd of the national Landmass... Would it not be more sensible to Invest in Research, Science and Technology so that we salvage the other 2/3rds and create more opportunities?
