Keren and I were set up by a mutual friend. It was about as old - TopicsExpress

Keren and I were set up by a mutual friend. It was about as old fashioned a setup as you could imagine, except that the setting wasn’t a blind date at a coffee shop, it was across 1600 miles in a video game. What struck me immediately was keren’s warmth. She was just so friendly to complete strangers, even the strangers who were simply text and avatars. Secondly was Keren’s intelligence. She was just so smart. She could talk for hours on any subject and just be so interesting. I immediately latched onto her, and to my shock, she welcomed my attachment and opened up to me. We started talking on the phone every day within just a couple of days of meeting each other. And after just a few weeks, we planned to meet in person. Keren met me at JFK airport, I knew she was running a little late because her hair was still damp from the shower. And what could easily be an extremely awkward moment, meeting some guy you met on the internet who just bought a plane ticket to come visit you, was just so easy. This was one of Keren’s most exceptional talents, her ability to make anyone feel at ease, welcomed, and cared for, almost instantly. This warmth and concern and casual engagement and respect wasn’t just reserved for the people she deemed worthy. She behaved this way in equal measures towards the Rabbi and towards the grocery store cashier. If anyone opened the door even a crack to her, she would immediately engage warmly with them and before you knew it keren and a complete stranger would be going on about dogs, or gummi bears or just anything. I would so often just be standing their with my jaw hanging wondering how on earth it was so easy for her to just become immediate friends with a total stranger who was obviously from a completely different walk of life. I think G-d must have blessed her with this talent specifically. It’s so rare and special. It added so much to my life because I was so lucky to have been the object of that warmth on a constant basis. And I want to thank G-d, and her family, both, for creating this beautiful soul that was so exceptional in this hard world.
