Kerry Wixted of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources will be leading a half-day workshop on the popular early childhood education program Growing Up WILD on Thursday of the Professional Development Institute at the 2014 MAEOE Conference. This is a cant miss workshop for any educator working with young children! Learn how to connect young children (aged 3-7) to nature using the interdisciplinary program, Growing Up WILD! Growing Up WILD is an early childhood education program that builds on children’s natural sense of wonder through a series of 27 activities that contain components of early literacy, math, science, art, music and movement. The activities support developmentally appropriate practices allowing children to learn at levels that are individually, socially, and culturally appropriate. Best of all, Growing Up WILD activities are correlated to Common Core (K-2), Maryland Environmental Literacy Standards (PreK-2), National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Standards and the Head Start Domains! Throughout the workshop, participants will go through several of the Growing Up WILD lessons, and everyone will receive their own copy of the guide.
