Kevin McGuire July 17, 2014, 7:16 PM EDT Ohio State, Michigan agree to not play under primetime lights Ohio State and Michigan State being given a primetime kickoff in November is a rarity in the Big Ten. This is why you should not expect to see the Buckeyes take on rival Michigan in a primetime time slot anytime soon, at least according to Ohio State Athletics Director Gene Smith. And while you may not be able to get Ohio State and Michigan to agree on much, keeping the annual rivalry game out of primetime appears to be something the two Big Ten bluebloods see eye-to-eye on. “[Michigan AD] Dave Brandon, the athletic director at Michigan, and I constantly have conversations that that should not be a night game, and it will not be a night game,” Smith said, according to The Columbus Dispatch. “It won’t be (at night) this year, nor in following years.” Ohio State is actually playing three home games at night this season. Ohio State opens the season at home against Virginia Tech at 8 p.m. on September 6. The Buckeyes also host Cincinnati for a 6 p.m. kickoff on September 27 and Big Ten opponent Illinois at 8 p.m. on November 1. The following week the Buckeyes travel to Michigan State for the rematch of the Big Ten championship game in the primetime showdown. Ohio State also plays in primetime on October 25 when with a visit to Penn State. How many night games are too much for an individual team?
