Key Learning on Disability Mainstreaming Disability is a cross cutting human rights issue in development work. There are decreased reported deaths but increased disabilities during disasters. During emergency responses, persons with disability have increased vulnerability even though they are often an invisible population. Inclusive participation of PWD in emergency responses ensures the input of PWD in development is realized. Better disaster preparedness will reduce the number of new disabilities during a disaster. There is need to have more assistive devices for different disabilities during disaster responses. Specific data on disabilities is vital for specific disability interventions in humanitarian action. There is need for increased international and local advocacy for disability inclusive policies and practices. There is need for a multifaceted and multi-sectorial approach in disability interventions. There is need to reduce stigma and discrimination associated with disability. Closer stakeholder and agency collaboration ensures better disability intervention
