Kgosikgolo Tawana Supports the Motion, Botsalo Ntuane opposes the Motion MPS TRADE INSULTS OVER LANGUAGE USAGE IN STATE MEDIA Members of Parliament traded tribal insults after Selibe Phikwe West MP, Gilson Saleshando’s motion calling for Radio Botswana and BTV to make arrangements to broadcast news in other languages. Gaborone West South MP, Botsalo Ntuane objected to the motion arguing that Botswana Congress Partys intention is to create tribalism. He further stated that he has not even met anyone in his constituency who wants the state media to broadcast in other languages. Ntuane accused the BCP of being a tribal pressure group and bent on fuelling tribalism. However, Maun West MP, Tawana Moremi, supported the motion arguing that it will help preserve other languages in the country. He said that those who opposed the idea of other languages being broadcast in state media have the intention to ensure they become extinct. Moremi stated that Batswana have been living in harmony using their own languages without fighting each other but now some MPs claim broadcasting in other languages can fuel tribalism.
