Khadja Nin is an extraordinarily beautiful and sensitive singer from Burundi. Her CD has been in my collection for many years but only today did I realize shes on You Tube. She sings in French, Swahili and Kurundi. She sings of the senselessness of war, of the opportunism of politicians, of their sacrifice of innocents in pursuit of their goals, of the way in which embargoes leave despots untouched and plunge civilians into a living hell. This song is titled Mama and heres a translation of the lyrics: Come closer, mother, and catch your breath. Your whole life youve worried, youve been distressed. Only the sun and moon to witness your endless struggle, as you search for the stream, whose water serves to build our lives. So true it is, that a Mothers life is pure love alone.
