Kia orana TUAKANA KATU & TAMARU SADARAKA families... How are we all? Hope all is well with your families. It is so lovely to see a lot of names on our family page... Families, just a request from me, maybe to some of us as well, personally, I dont know a lot of you guys and your connections to the above mentioned names of this family page... Just a little bit about our Papa Tuakana and Mama Tamaru, who are both deceased. Papa died in August 1974 and buried at the Mangere cemetry Auckland, after a short visit to NZ, first time ever he left the Cooks, and straight into the cold winter weather season... Papas dad Tangata, is from the island of Atiu and his mother Emere or Emele is from Samoa. Papa was also known by some other names such as Mokani (Morgan in english), Tamauti, that the Aitutaki people would come up with a name. Papa is well known and called Mokani...Papa was a an excellent planter of vegetable plantations which we as families, benefited from the fruits of his labour, and also those that self helped themselves... When he weeds his plantations you will never see any single growth of weeds... Papa lived on his own when he separated from Mama Tamaru, at his plantation, on his piece of land of Aretou, in the village of Vaipeka. Papa relied in God to bless and strengthen him each day, and reads his bible without fail.He attended a small Vaipeka community church on the sea side, no longer there. He rode his horse or walk to church or caught a ride with some one. His bible is also his safe where he kept his pension. He is also our mums emergency bank when she struggles to feed us children including brother Robin in Porirua... Our mum Taiono is the (muramata) the apple of his eyes, whatever mum asked Papa, he gave without question... His second (muramata) is our sister Purotu in Perth, because he named her and gave Purotu the best site of Aretou up the hill as his gift to her... Mama Tamarus genealogy is from the island of Mitiaro and she also known and called by the Aitutaki people as mama Raimaki. She also known by another name which I believe is her real name, sorry just disconnected from my brain!!! Pitonga Henry will confirm that for us... Mama was a very good lead traditional singing in the Aitutaki Free Church back in the days. Mama was involved with a lot of Amuri community projects especially women group activities. One vivid memories of mine of mama when she weaved mats at the same time singing away her imene tuki (traditional songs) on her own, and she would sing both ladies and men parts. It was a joy listening to mama. And off course, spent the rest of her life with Papa John Karue, and he was a very good companion and husband to our mama to the last of their days. When Mama was stroked down with a devastating illness bed ridden and taken to Rarotonga hospital for a long period of time, Papa John Karue was with her all the way and returned to Aitutaki. Mama & Papa John brought up 3 of our sisters Maria, Moana, Pitonga, Teara, Elani and others..Papa John had been good friends and good relationship with Mamas children... Mama Tamaru passed away in June 1993.... Papa Tuakana and Mama Tamaru had 9 children 8 boys and 1 daughter, and that girl is our mum Taiono, lying sick and weak at home in Aitutaki now...
