Kicking things off with a bang this early Sunday AM! Generally every year around this time, as a devoted movie buff, I try to spread the goodness and share my personal recommendations for key Halloween viewing. Having seen it for the first time just last night and been thoroughly immersed in its unflinching brutality, Darren Lynn Bousmans MOTHERS DAY (2010) will be my first official recommendation for the 2014 season!! While it does very much border on being just as much a crime film, it is also without question firmly smack in the pack of home invasion horror. Clearly an homage to the sicktastic 1980 rape/revenge gem of the same name, I by no means view it as a remake, as the only real connections are the characters of Ike and Addley (both not nearly as backwoodsy backwards neanderthal as their original namesakes), occasional mention of the legend of kid-snatching wild woman of the wilderness, Queenie, and a nod to one of the most notoriously original kills ever caught within the horror realm. Fans of Rebecca De Mornay (myself included) will eat her chilling performance up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, shes that good! Have a look, fellow film freaks!!
