Kieran Fowler goes Geronimo! Set amongst a cardboard world Sheppard’s music video Geronimo follows the band members who lead a group of 19th century like rebels in a small uprising guided by their cardboard monster ‘Geronimo’. Kieran gave us some feedback. Panavision supplied the production with B-series anamorphic lenses coupled with a PV converted ARRI Alexa. We were after a glossy, higher key look with classic color tones ‘Blue Moonlight’, ‘Warm Tungsten interiors’ and color separation akin to the lighting you see in mainstream films like Les Miserable and Pirates of the Caribbean. We knew we wanted to go with Panavision Anamorphics to help achieve the classic aesthetic and I absolutely love the quality’s you get from the B-series older glass, softer image quality, lower contrast, and heightened flares. It’s beautiful how the ‘flaw’s’ in the lens can provide great surprising oddities to the image and for most music videos I feel you have more leeway to play with interesting visuals, for example the 50mm B-series has this beautiful rainbow halo flare quality. The Alexa with it’s 4:3 capabilities and simple workflow was a good choice for the tight deadline and in my opinion it’s renders one of the nicest digital images of a camera out there at the moment. The skin tones and way it handles varying color temperatures made it a brilliant camera for the project.
