(Kim) Heres a post for folks who are new to Honeysuckles FB page: Honeysuckle is a tiny Chihuahua, now around 11 years old. She was rescued from a backyard breeder in North Carolina, along with 12 other dogs. Of the 13 dogs originally rescued, 10 survived. These wonderful little dogs were forcibly bred for many years, not provided with medical care, and they were given very little food, water, and attention. The owner never even gave them names. The dogs lived in a filthy, crowded house and in cages outside the house until their rescue. The Lucky 13, as they were named, were rescued in late July 2013, and have all been adopted into wonderful, loving families. They have all responded wonderfully to good medical care, good quality food, and lots of love. Honeysuckle has lived with me (Kim) and Emily since August 2013. Emily and I are sisters, and we live in Anchorage, Alaska. I now adopt only senior rescue dogs, and in addition to Honeysuckle, I have 3 more dogs - Penny (13-year old Papillon), Pocket (15-year old Chihuahua mix), and Molly (thought to be around 10, Chihuahua). Emily has two digs, in addition to Honeysuckle. Zoey (5-year old miniature Bull Terrier), and Lily (7-year old rescue miniature Bull Terrier). Emily and I live on opposite sides of Anchorage, but the town is small enough that we see one another almost daily. Emily works 3 jobs, so she is very busy and doesnt comment often on this page. I am a stay-home mom. I homeschool my teen son (he has always been homeschooled), and I stay busy with his activities and my own. Honeysuckle used to spend half the week with Em, and half the week with me, but since I adopted Molly, Honeysuckle doesnt like to be parted from her so she stays with me most of the time. When Emily takes Honeysuckle for overnights, she usually takes Molly, as well so that they can be together. If you should happen to find yourself visiting Alaska, we are happy to meet with you and introduce you to Honeysuckle (and/or any of the other dogs). As our time and money allow, we take Honeysuckle on trips with us, and will let folks know when and where we plan to be so that anyone who wants to meet Honeysuckle can visit her. We are happy to answer questions, and our particular interests on this page are to share information about rescue pets, to promote adopting rescues, to educate people about puppy mills, back yard breeders, and on senior animals.
