Kimberlee updates us on Ricos 49th day at Renegade Wind: the Horse-Human Revolution: #EquineComebackChallenge at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show We had a minor farm emergency the last couple days and I didnt have a chance to work with Rico until today. We started off by playing with the giant soccer ball and pushing that around. Afterwards, I put the Dr. Cook bitless bridle on him and had planned to do some work in-hand without the saddle. However, the last few times in the bridle he has begun to pull. His release in a halter is terrific and this is a bit puzzling since he started in it so well. It might have something to do with his aversion to being ridden. One thing is clear and that is he is not comfortable in it right now. Our next time together I think I will just put a couple lead ropes on a halter and see how he does with that. If he seems comfortable and happy, Ill try him in a sidepull. Rico is a very sensitive horse and it could be that the action of the Dr. Cook bridle on his face is just a bit too much for him right now. Remember my mantra - be a horse listener, not a horse whisperer. For those of you who are new to the Rico journey, I posted the video of us starting in the bitless bridle early on and will repost it here. This is how I start horses and transition horses from bitted to bitless. I made that transition myself about 13 years ago after using a variety of bits for most of my time with horses. Now I cannot imagine myself putting a bit in a horses mouth.
