Kind of scary, actually. Since reading has been my favorite thing since about age 6, that places me in the tail of all of these distributions (and that, all along the life path), so I must be an expert, by now, in my many fields of book choice. Lol! Pondering what new shingles I should hang on my office door . . . . Though I do think, if we count Facebook and internet surfing in general, our assessment of literacy levels (whether or not people can spell or punctuate) would be higher. While few people read books, since the rise of the Net (late 90s), I suspect that many non-book readers actually spend a fair amount of time reading stuff (good stuff, bad stuff, crap. . . . but reading, nonetheless).
