Kindly Read (Excerpts from the Ivory Coast Football Federation Meeting with Minister for Promotion of Youth, Sports and Leisure Alain Lobognon). I Translated from French to English so read with that in mind please! Alain Lobognon, the Ivorian Minister of the Promotion of Youth, Sports and Leisure has cancelled names of 43 people who were suppose to be part of the Elephants delegation to Equatorial Guinea for Afcon. The 43 were composed of club presidents submitted by the Federation Ivorian Football, whose expenses was included in the budget for the tournament. The minister calls it prestige spending and has ordered the FIF to withdraw sections of the budget with similar items. The Ivorian FA President Sidy Diallo also requested for an amount of FCFA 100 million as pocket money which he explained at the budget presentation as monies to be used for actions of the president, (protocol), but the minister has rejected it and says that will not be considered. Regarding friendlies for the Elephants, the FA boss cited Ghana and Nigeria (note: Ghana and Nigeria) as nations whose bills for friendlies (preparations, accommodation and bonuses) exceed 200 million FCFA (100 million CFA per game), but the Minister considered it unnecessary to consider this expenditure at the expense of the state. The minister insist the state will not pay any premium (bonuses) to players for friendly matches. Says Whats the point to charge a friendly match at 100 million FCFA. The state does not take into account such an expense so the FA must find means out, he argued. In terms of travel, the Football Federation (FIF) wished to make available a special flight Elephants (chartered flight). The location of this special flight will cost destination for Abu Dhabi-Malabo 150 million FCFA. Then the same amount for the Malabo-Abidjan destination. This part of the budget also has been withdrawn on authority by the ministry and has therefore requested the FIF to travel on commercial flight with the group, Also in order to reduce the prestige spending. The ministry has tasked Sory Diabate and to communicate to group captain Yaya Toure and his members that the state will not pay premium selection (appearance fee) as of before. The FIF had charged it at 115 million CFA francs in the current budget but has also been cancelled. However, they will benefit from goals premiums (performance-related reward). And that target bonus will be validated by the Government. In accordance with the new law of sport adopted by the Ivorian Parliament, an Incentive Bonus is nevertheless fixed. For this AFCON, since the team is under construction (rebuilding), the target for Elephants is at least the semi-finals, the minister told Jeun Afrik, Based on this, The State will generate 1.5 billion CFA francs to be used for these premiums (bonuses). However, these funds will remain in place in Abidjan and will not be disbursed to the Football Federation until the return of the players in Abidjan, if the target is reached,. One thing is certain, the Football Ivorian Federation will not have the 3.5 billion CFA francs budgeted for the training camp in the UAE and for competition in Equatorial Guinea. We will have to start looking for other sources of revenue (may be sponsorship) to ensure good CAN participation An FIF member said after the meeting.
