Kirsty Sword Gusmão - Fan Page : I am immensely proud of the inspiring work that my Alola Foundation is doing to improve the standard of living, education levels and health of women and children in Timor-Leste. Our Maternal and Child Health team, with the assistance of the MILK Campaign and the efforts of Alola Australia, have contributed in a very practical way to significantly reducing rates of infant and maternal mortality since independence in 2002. Heres a concrete example of what Alola is doing: a safe motherhood initiative in Humboe village in Ermera district educated women and their families about the importance of giving birth at a health institution such as a hospital. As a result of Alolas work, institutional deliveries increased from 11% to 86% in the 3 month period following implementation of the intervention. Your support of Alolas MILK Campaign this year will ensure that that this kind of valuable work will continue and improve the health of more mothers and their infants.
