Kishtwar: Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who concluded his two-day visit to the district on Saturday, announced setting up of a degree college, very high frequency tower and facility of medical ambulance for the remotest Paddar- Machail mountainous belt of Kishtwar district. At the conclusion of his extensive tour of district Kishtwar covering remotest areas including Dachan, Chhatroo, Gulabgarh and Machail, Singh today announced a Degree College as well as a Medical Ambulance for Paddar and a Very High Frequency (VHF) Signal Tower for Machail, an official statement said here. Both these projects were in pipeline and the work on College would begin as soon as land for the purpose was acquired with the assistance of state government, Singh added. The Minister also said he was pursuing with the concerned Ministries on the issues of Chitto and Gandhari project and inclusion of Machail in tourist circuit. Speaking to party workers and media persons here, Singh said during the election campaign, he had personally experienced difficulties arising due to inaccessibility, lack of telecommunication and poor road connectivity in these areas and therefore, through todays announcement, he had tried to fulfill at least three of the major promises made by him during the election campaign. He also informed that the issue of compensation to the victims of last years Kishtwar riots had been taken up with the Union Home Ministry which had in turn asked for status report from state government and now district administration had been advised to find ways and means of compensating even those who had lost movable properties lodged in transport vehicles. In addition, Singh said recruitment rallies and camps for paramilitary forces would start soon in the area and a formal request for this had already been submitted to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. This would also help in addressing unemployment among the youth, he added. Earlier, Singh held a meeting with the officials of district administration in which, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Javed Khan, DIG Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, SSP Sanjay Kotwal, senior officers as well as representatives of civil society were present among others. During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner briefed Singh about the various rescue and relief measures taken after the recent flash floods and heavy rains. The Minister assured that there was no dearth of supply of relief material or funds from the Centre, but in order to make distribution objective and judicious, he advised the Deputy Commissioner to involve representatives from all sections of civil society and political parties, so that the distribution was not only fair, but also appear to be fair. Appreciating the cooperation by civil society to Kishtwar district administration, Singh said what actually required was bridging the trust deficit, so that no section of society feels discriminated against. The issues of lack of infrastructure in the district hospital in Kishtwar and ill-equipped dispensary in Machail would also be taken up with the health authorities, he said.
