Kiss of Love meets its kiss of death! Unlike the well-publicized pseudo campaign, which has all the illusory trappings of defiant assertion of freedom, radical affirmation of love, this one from Bajarang Dal is going to be its nemesis, some kind of a cultural carpet bombing. This new call is by no means a response to misleading and misguided Kiss of Love, though. Asymmetric though this announced campaign is going to be in comparison with Kiss of Love, unlike it, it is going to be more serious about the business. To add insult to injury, the Kiss of Loves attempted over smart progressive pan-fair-skinned unities, freedom-of-love-across-the-upper-castes of all religions, will now have to face the danger of being half-assimilated into Bajarang Dal program itself! You are living in denial if you dont see in this program a call not only a sure recipe for making public places unsafe for women of all minority religions, providing organizational help, support, protection and encouragement for harassment of women of non-Hindu religion. This is also a massive turning of shame-faced or shameless yet isolated, unorganized acts of eve-harassment into an organized political movement. This new institutionalization of harassment will inevitably create now its own forms of survival and surrender and even internalization. Harassed women now will point to her tormentors that they were Hindus and not to be messed with, some of them will even be tempted occasionally to give away other women of Non-Hindu religion to save themselves. Hindu parents might even support this campaign that it made the streets relatively safer for their daughters. Those who might be eager to (mis)read this is one more of organized attacks on ALL women from Sangh would miss an important point. This gesture will make some palpable limited extra safety for Hindu women while worsening the condition of Non-Hindu women immeasurably. via Abul Kalam Azad and Ayesha Matthan
