Kiwi came to us in pretty bad shape. She had severe hair loss and was very overweight. Our clinic staff sent out some tests and found her to have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). She is currently on an inexpensive thyroid pill twice a day and will need to continue this for life. Due to her thyroid disease going undiagnosed or untreated for a long time, she became obese and developed skin infections. She has started thyroid medication about 3 weeks ago and has already lost 8 pounds and has gained an immense amount of energy. She is currently in adoption and with the daily exercise provided by our volunteers - she is losing more weight and feeling spunkier! She gets medicated baths to help with the skin infection and we couldnt resist snapping some photos during her spa time. With this medication - both topical and oral - we expect the scabs to fall off and her hair to grow back. Unfortunately, our vet thinks with the severity of her skin infection, she will have some scarring and will likely never have a completely normal fur coat. From every wound, there is a scar, and a scar tells a story. A story that says, I SURVIVED. Kiwi is a survivor and wants to show you that she may be physically scarred - but emotionally she is ready for a family and a home!
