Klas Ingesson died this morning, aged 46, after a five-year battle - TopicsExpress

Klas Ingesson died this morning, aged 46, after a five-year battle with cancer. He was special to me in more ways than one, and not just because he was a part of the great Sweden team that came third at USA94 (the year I met Maria). He was an honest, open, down-to-earth man, and it came as a shock in 2009 when he announced that he had cancer. It came as an even greater shock when it came back. I asked him for an interview back in June for the 20th anniversary of the USA94 tournament - some of those I approached never bothered to get back to me or to even pick up the phone (and one portly gent told me to contact his lawyer...), but Klas did. Id gladly do it but Im not 100% after an operation. If you could wait a week or two Id have more time to recover, was his prompt reply. We never did the interview. I left him alone - not because he didnt want to do it but because I felt bad bothering a man who was so sick, yet so decent he didnt feel he could say no. Rest in peace Klas, the manner of your passing was the same as the manner of your play - never giving up, never giving in, and loved by all who saw you.
