Knock, Knock, Knockin on Heatley’s Door (Townsville) Twelve Police Officers and seven Police Liaison Officers from Kirwan, Mundingburra, and Stuart Police Stations this week conducted a major high-visibility community engagement exercise in the Heatley area, in the form of a Doorknock, where residents were encouraged to complete a Crime Prevention Survey. Northern Region Acting Assistant Commissioner, Mr Paul Taylor, said “One of the things we are doing is changing the way we Police, so instead of responding to crime we are trying to get on the front foot, manage crime, target those places where crime is likely to occur in a proactive manner and engage with the community.” This exercise was coordinated under the supervision of Acting Senior Sergeant Brenton Webb, relieving Officer in Charge of the Kirwan Police Station and said “these proactive engagement strategies are a great interactive tool between Police and the community and we have received many positive responses from the home owners in this area. We certainly appreciate the community’s feedback and we see that the public are grateful to us for taking the time to listen to their concerns. This information will now be used to assist Police in planning future operational needs in the area”. Police received praise from the community for their tireless efforts on the streets, and thanked them for the opportunity to have their voice heard. Future community engagement operations have been planned across the Townsville Metropolitan area.
