Knotty Math Paper: Experts say it was ‘imbalanced’ but within syllabus BOSE NOT INCLINED TO GO FOR RE-EXAMINATION, OFFERS GRACE MARKS; DY CM ORDERS PROBE SPOTLIGHT. Srinagar, Nov 8: Admitting that one of the series’ in Mathematics question paper of class 12th was ‘imbalanced’, experts have opined that the students’ interest should be taken care of while checking the answer sheets. The experts have, however, opined that the paper was not “out of syllabus.” Sources told Greater Kashmir, that the State Board of School Education (BOSE) is likely to turn down the demand of students for conduct of fresh examination of the subject while it could consider awarding some grace marks to them. They said experts have refuted the allegations of the students that the paper was “out of syllabus” but admitted that the series was imbalanced. “The experts have recommended that the interest of the students should be taken care of while checking the answer scripts,” sources said. Meanwhile, taking the cognizance of the complaint of 12th class students that the Mathematics paper was ‘out of context’, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand who holds the charge of education portfolio Friday ordered inquiry into the matter. He asked Secretary BOSE to submit report of “irresponsible attitude” of the concerned so that justice is done with the affected students and erring officials are taken to task. The issue was discussed at an officers meeting in Jammu held under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister. Sources said the Dy CM expressed resentment over the negligent attitude of the erring officials. BOSE has constituted a three-member panel to look into the complaint of class 12 students that Mathematics paper was twisted and hard to comprehend. The committee was asked to submit its report within three days. The report remained unopened for some time as Board chairman was unavailable to open the same. Sources said the Minister was apprised of the expert opinion on the issue and he directed the officials to take due care as the matter pertains to career of thousands of students. Pertinently, on October 28, hundreds of class 12 students staged protest demonstrations at the Press Enclave here and blocked the busy Residency Road demanding re-examination of Mathematics paper conducted by BOSE. #taju
