Know how to win a sword fight - 8Oct2014 In my book, “Life and Times of Dionysius the Divine” I write about my goals as a young man. One of these goals was to “conquer the world”. And, “I conquered the world by taking everything the world had to dish out, good and bad, without by and large striking back”. And thus I survived many conflicts, physical, intellectual and spiritual. Here now is Lancelot’s (Richard Gere) version from the 1995 movie, First Knight”. Lancelot – do you want to know how to win a sword fight? Be the only one with a sword. - Once in a life time there comes a man so powerful, So fearless that no man can touch him And while we are waiting for him to come along, You can practice on me. - As sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, there is a man somewhere better than me. Could be here, today. - Could be you (Big Mark). He looks strong. Is he good? Crowd - try him and see. Come on Mark, only don’t hurt him Lancelot – you are Mark. Mark – That’s my name Lancelot – I am Lancelot. Ready? Mark – Ready. (Swish, Swish – swords fly) Lancelot – you don’t have to kill me to win. (Swish, Swish – swords fly) Lancelot – Is that sword too heavy for you? Mark – you don’t have to worry about that. (Swish, Swish – swords fly) Lancelot – Good. Now let me give you some advise. Mark – What’s that? Lancelot – Don’t drop your sword. (Swish, Swish, Swish – swords fly and Mark drops sword) Lancelot – (smiling) Is this your sword? Well done. Give him a hand, Mark – How did he do that? Was that a trick? Lancelot – No, no trick. It’s way of fighting. Mark – Could I do it? Tell me, I can learn. Lancelot – (deep breath) You have to study your opponent, how he moves so you know how he is going to move before he does it. Mark – (smiling) I can do that. Lancelot – you have to know that one moment whenever you fight, when you win or lose, and you know how to wait for it. Mark – (somber) - I can do that. Lancelot – and you have to not care whether you live or die. Mark – (grim silence) Copyright © 2014. Dionysius the Divine (DtD), LLC.
