#Kobai_Detained_Students (Frontline Detailts) Kobanî - Swapping Captives between ISIS and the Kurdish Protection Forces The local council and both the Kurdish and the Arab tribal elders in northern Syria have mediated between the organization of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the Kurdish Protection Forces ( YPG ) in order to swap the captives between both sides in Kobanî. This mediation came after ISIS arrested many Kurdish civilians in several places and due to the last operation of hijacking minibuses of the students of prep school who went to Aleppo in order to do their exams owing to the closure of official exam centers in the city of Kobani on June 1, 2014. From another side, the colleague Ahmed Shekho, director of the Union of Kurdish Students in Syria - Branch Kobanî went to the site of the exchange of captives in the village of Aslan Koy which is 45 Kilometers away from the centre of Kobanî . Ahmed Shekho was accompanied by journalists from several channels of both Kurdish and international media to cover the details of the exchange and to deliver the truth to the student community and to the international community so that the entire world know how the Kurdish community suffers in northern Syria, particularly during the ongoing war in the country since four years ago. Ahmed Shekho recites the details of the swapping of captives in the village of Aslan Koy, Kobanî, Syria: I got a call from one of my journalist friends who told me that The process of swapping the captives between both sides will be done today in the next coming hours on 11.07.2014. I went with both the crew and the correspondents of the media outlets in the same car. I arrived at the site where the exchange will be done (village of Aslan Koy) at 11:00, but we were prevented from crossing into the heart of the event as a result of the imperative reasons of security which is understandable and necessary to the security of civilians there. But after a period of time we were able to cross into the event site, we went to the committee in charge of the process of swapping the captives and we waited there with them. The distance between us and the ISIS was only one kilometre. Initially, a delegation of ISIS came and inspected the captives and the dead bodies held by the Kurdish Protection Forces ( YPG ) making sure of the complete number of their captives. After that, our delegation went to the whereabouts of ISIS and assured the number of our students and all civilian detainees, the number was complete too. The number of detainees held by the ISIS is 420 people and about 50 dead bodies all are innocent civilians and students who were kidnapped from their homes or from checkpoints of ISIS and some of them were slaughtered in the town of Al-Raqqa , from another side, Kurdish Protection Forces( YPG ) retain 70 thugs and 40 dead bodies all are fighters of ISIS, they were captured or killed in the battles with the Kurdish Protection Forces. After both sides were certain of the identity of the number of the captives, the committee in charge from the Kurdish side went with the captives and dead bodies to ISIS in order to be swapped for Kurdish captives. The Kurds sent all the prisoners they have, yet ISIS did not send except a small number of students and then they start to return the students and they were just stalling. The process of procrastination by ISIS lasted until 6 pm. As a result of procrastination, the Kurdish forces and the committee overseeing the process of the exchange of captives withdrew. the process of the exchange of captives was delayed according to statements from the committee in charge of negotiations. ukss-sy.org/en/index.php/student-affairs/item/260-koban%C3%AE-swapping-captives-between-isis-and-the-kurdish-protection-forces.html#.U8KNn_mSyAM
