Koe konga nae too mei he tohi nae send to some businesses in Vavau - TopicsExpress

Koe konga nae too mei he tohi nae send to some businesses in Vavau including myself, by a concerned tourist. Ikai totonu ketau ita, ka tau toe fakakaukau ange na oku iai pe haane mooni, pea tau feinga ke solova mo fakaleleii... Ka kuopau ke uluaki kamata pe iate koe mo au - keta hiko eta vevee .. We also spent three days on Vavau but, despite the whales or the diving, its unlikely I will go back. Frankly, the township of Neiafu was disgusting - worse than some parts of Asia. People go to Vavau for a range of reasons, but surely the pristine ocean environment is a key one? So it was distressing to see the piles of rubbish in the streets, around the markets, in between the shops and especially outside the food stores at Neiafu. It was of course, all processed food wrappers, plastic bottled, cans, labels. Empty bottles, plastic bags, cigarette butts....all waiting patiently to be washed into the ocean environment. Within a few years, the environment that makes Vavau so special will be wrecked. And the people will stop coming. Should you care? I hope so. Its a nice place, sure, great for a relaxing holiday. But Tonga is in competition with all other South Pacific Islands. I loved Tonga. I loved the people and I loved the environment. I loved the sea around Vavau....Neiafu however was disgusting. You might not do anything as a result of this email...but if it makes you think and if it makes you notice the rubbish the next time you go into town, perhaps Ive achieved something after all.
