Kokan Bhumi Pratishthan plans to organise Global Kokan Festival on international & pan-India basis Will host the 4th edition of the Festival in Navi Mumbai from Dec 14-17, 2013 By TBM Staff | Mumbai Kokan Bhumi Pratishthan, which has been organising the Global Kokan Festival, an annual festival, for the past three years, has preponed the fourth edition from January 2014 to December 14-17, 2013 at the CIDCO Ground in Sanpada, Navi Mumbai. This year’s edition will be bigger, and the four-day extravaganza showcasing the culture, history and beauty of the Konkan region, will be inaugurated by Prithviraj Chavan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and Sharad Pawar, President, Nationalist Congress Party. The event will witness gathering of ministers like Chhagan Bhujbal, Minister for Public Works & Special Assistance Department and Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, high-ranking officials, politicians, celebrities, businessmen and dignitaries, apart from lakhs of Konkan lovers. TravelBiz Monitor will be the media partner of the event. The Festival will have conferences focusing on various sectors, and will include a day-long Tourism Conference, which will see panel discussions among high-level government officials, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation officials, travel and tourism associations and industry experts. They will discuss topics like tourism development in Konkan, probable solutions by the government, infrastructure development in Konkan in the next five years, etc. The Festival will also have an exhibition with 250 stalls, including those of Konkani products, tourism and hospitality players, social organisations, real estate developers, government agencies, etc. The organisers of the event, which is the biggest platform to promote the region and its potential in all spheres of development, including tourism, buoyed by the response and success of the past three editions (the last edition held in January this year witnessed over five lakh visitors), have decided to take the Festival overseas and across India in the coming years. According to Bhai Jagtap, President, Kokan Bhumi Pratishthan and Acting President, Global Kokan Festival, the mission is to promote the Konkan region on a global platform. “We are planning to organise the fifth Global Kokan Festival in London and would like to organise the event in an international destination every alternate year. The other years, we want to host it in various Indian cities to showcase the regions in the domestic market,” stated Jagtap. The event in London is being planned in association with South Bank and London & Partners. Maharashtra’s culture, including the Konkan region, Bollywood, cuisine, tourism, trade and commerce potential, will be showcased at the mega event with a strong 500-member delegation. According to Abhijeet Patil, Chairman, Maharashtra Chapter, Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India, the Festival is a grass-root movement and a 24x7, 365-day initiative to promote Konkan, which has a diverse range of tourism offerings. “Global Kokan has adopted seven beaches and will be promoting each with a different facet like water sports, Rural Tourism, family getaways, etc. One beach will be developed as a high-end party zone. The region offers the travel trade a great opportunity to increase their Maharashtra portfolio and boost tourism to the state,” stated Patil.
