#Kollywoodcinemaa Exclusive Interview - 3 We placed few queries about the industry and his upcoming film before Industry Veteran, Radhakrishnan Parthiban Sir. The director of distinguished films presented replies(below) in his own peculiar way.We take this opportunity to wish him a Grand Success on behalf of KC fans. Here is 3rd Exclusive interview from Kollywoodcinemaa 1.What genre this film belongs to? This will be the audiences question when they come out of theatres after watching kadhai thiradhai vasanam iyakam. It’s entirely a new age film, one cannot define its genre. 2.Why the cast is full of new faces? I really wanted something new, and was cautious not to remind my characters from any of my previous ventures. It’s completely a new content so I had to cast 7 new faces. 3.You have been giving some of the best films to the industry like pudhiya paadhai, azhagi, bharathi kannamma and housefull. Why don’t u take a big hero subject? I have not taken any oaths or I dont have any reservations as such. As a creator I.m interested to do story oriented , different films. I’ve been taking films with a big hero parthiban till now. Even if I get vijay or surya on board, I will be thinking on the lines how well I can utilize their skills & give a best film, certainly not a commercial one as anjaan. Any big hero after a point is pressurized by various elements like big budget, business of the project, etc which prevents them from doing story oriented roles naturally. Arya & vishal have worked with me in KTVI, we are planning in work together in future. My definition of success is Poornathuvam(100% completion) in whatever I do. Out of my 25 yrs in the industry, I’m young enough to direct KTVI, which will fulfill film lovers in a different perspective. That is how it has grown to this level to compete with Anjaan. Again I feel if Anjaan is a royal marriage with all luxurious arrangements, KTVI is a simple marriage which will surely win over peoples heart. 4. You have been an actor, poet , director, producer.? Which is the toughest from your view? Which role you think you have given your best? Each roles demands a considerable amount of creativity which is not easy. Whatever is from your true self that is tough. On the other hand, It is very easy to duplicate others Work My best is yet to come. I can quote Aayirathil oruvan for acting and I.m very much sure of KTVI for direction. 5. In KTVI, we find more stars in cameo than the actual cast? Why? Where u able to allocate the screen space for all and accomodate each of them? I would like to quote biriyani for this particular question. We need to include both mutton and pattai( masala leaf) in biriyani To make it delicious. We cant add equal amount or the other way. It’s all about “Mutton ah “ “pattaya”? That way I’m sure I have made a sumptuous one with more people doing their roles perfectly in the right quotient. I have made sure the film is only 2hrs with these many talented artists. 6. Five music directors are involved to do music, was there any particular reason behind this? Initially I thought of avoiding songs for the film, then I asked Alphonse to do a promotional track, which followed roping in thaman, vijay antony & sharreth. I believed that the film needed a variety, instead getting different songs from same music director, I thought I can get the job done by various music directors, which had costed me closed to 80 lakhs. The major part is to intelligently join all these songs with apt bgm , which Sathya has beautifully worked on. The bgm has a special song, its special by the way parthiban has penned lyrics for it. Aagayam koodava kaanaamal poividum, pogadhu aadhalaal naamum kaadhal purivom... 7. How is the experience working with the KTVI team? A distinct movie not like any of the films which have acted or directed. I’m like a Scavenger in the industry, I’m continuously in search of something new, different & equally challenging. I have a lot of different scripts, to name one upma company which will make audience laugh right from the time of buying ticket to leaving the theaters. There are lot of talented people among us yearning for a right chance to prove their prowess, unfortunately they dont find right producers to give chance to establish their dreams. I’m lucky enough to get Chandra Mohan(our producer), who had complete faith on me & my work. 8.At present, we get more films waiting for screening. what is the reason behind that. what has to be done ? We dont have proper regulations thats the reason. In villages we had the concepts of moravasal” or “kootaanchoru”, which is a clear idea of resource management. Our producers association has to regulate the release of both big budget and small budget films, keeping in mind the amount of work, time & energy everyone invests in the films If a big budget films fails to release on planned date due to technical reasons, it should be released on a later date, but not on the consecutive week, exploiting the small budget films whose release dates coincide.. This behavior not only destroys the small budget release, it worsens the situation of the director, makes the producer a loser. 9. How u zeroed at this particular title? For a cinema oriented subject, I found this title to be apt and appropriate In the tagline, most people failed to notice the question mark?A film without a story..? This is a “Kadhaikul kadhaikul kadhaikul oru kadhai thedum kadhai” 10. Name a recent movie which moved you? I like all movies, if a single shot or two is nice, thats enough to satisfy me , I.m a cinema lover, who considers it a penance. Golisoda had nice instances Recently I liked my assistant Vinodhs sathuranga vettai for 2 reasons. First it is vinodh’s project Secondly he has portrayed new & different perspectives which is a welcome effort. 11. Which is your favourite character in the film? Arya and Amala Paul has done a sequence in the film, which is very special to me. 12. Which is your favourite character out of all your films? Obviously my role in Aayirathil oruvan which is well received by all. 13. Which sort of films u would like to watch Any new origin films (original films) on the lines of KTVI not with the lines of KTVI ;) I would always love to appreciate new efforts which give entirely new experiences. 14. When we think of name, which appreciates the noble works in the industry your name comes first. What is the most memorable appreciation you got? and from Whom? Ellorum nalam vaazha Nan paaduven nan vaazha yar paaduvar Industry knows how much efforts ,I’ve taken during myna’s release ..I look forward to all their support in making KTVI a big success. On personal front,my daughter Keerthana has sent me a letter appreciating me as a father, which is the most cherished one in my life all throughout. I’ve framed it & kept in my office, it matters a lot to me. On professional front, when my film Sarigamapadani was performing dull at the theaters , on 50th day, I advertised as Appaadaa 50aavadhu naal. K.Balachander sir wrote a detailed letter to me explaining that a creator should never lose his hope at any circumstance and also added you are only fellow to advertise a 50th day poster like this. 15.One thing which u feel has to be improved in the industry to make it more resilient? People should stop copying others work. This alone is enough to keep the industry healthy. 16.If a particular theme hits the box office and wins success, we find a bunch of films coming in the same theme which one way or the other loses importance? Is industry out of creativity or is there any other reason for this behavior? Cinema is purely a business, if a concept is a hit, people start following the same formula to make money and success. I’ve been with KTVI project more than a year, I have been continuously making my sincere efforts, I can afford to do it. It is not the same case with all others in the industry. It’s a struggle which not all are ready to undergo, majority of the people here choose to play safe. 17. Yours is a house hold name, and even if you do small roles in films its widely received by the audience, tell us your future projects Why are you not taking up more roles recently? I have been concentrating on Kadhai thiraikadhai vasanam iyakam, i didnot take up 4 roles during the period.I’ll definitely do in the future. 18.Define yourself in your words? There is a ‘thi’(fire) in between my name Parthiban .I’m earnestly working to keep that fire alive.I believe that every human should do the same in their lives 19. What’s your say on piracy? I’m sharing with you my advertisement on piracy, Most people smartly escape from the eyes of law by cheap means of sending someone to jail instead of them and using their money & influence to come out the case. They have started justifying their act quoting that some films have copied one or more sequences /scenes from other films. I would like to throw an open challenge, all who do piracy come & watch KTVI , if you think any scene is a copy from any film , pls make dvds and continue your piracy. I would also like to warn them , that they’ll reap now or later for what they are doing now, exploiting the sincere work of all the genuine creators. 20.What is your communication to Kollywoodcinemaa fans? Do encourage nice films by watching them only in theatres. Interview by Ganesh - See Picture 4
