Kolu is AWAKE! After 12 hours in the OR, and over 24 hours of sedation, she is off of the ventilator. She is now on the other side of this scary ordeal. Dr. Glower was able to perform with a minimally invasive procedure using the da Vinci robot. It allowed him to attempt to repair her valve, but due to a congenital (birth) defect, it was necessary to replace the valve with that of a pig. This was done through a small incision on the right side of her chest (as opposed to having to crack her chest open)! This will allow her to have fully oxygenated blood and reduce the extra work that one side of her heart has been forced to do for 40 years. She is in a lot of pain, but she is a strong and determined woman. We are all looking forward to seeing her in full and even better health. Thank you all for your good wishes, thoughts and prayers.
