#Koolhaas To talk about Rem Koolhaas is as big and as difficult to try to resume the definition of architecture in one sentence. For the moment I just fill capable to indicate my admiration for the motivation he has had in myself and many other architects of the generation X, in describe about architecture as a critical profession, extremely related with theory and analysis of history. After reading one of his interviews in “El Croquis” and his small book “Conversations with Students” I started orienting my studies to architectural theory in search of a meaning and definition of architecture opposed from the mere concept of technical building design and functionalist building types that was hardly encourage by practitioners by the time I was at the faculty. A short sentence from the start of “Conversations with Students”(1) says “: “ ...Architecture is a dangerous profession because it is a poisonous mixture of impotence and omnipotence, in the sense that the architect almost invariable harbors megalomaniacals dreams that depend upon others, and upon circumstances, to impose and to realize those fantasies and dreams”. I remark also a short sentence, which in my view is clearly representational of the first Koolhaas: “ Manhattan represents the apotheosis of the ideal of density per se, both of population and of infrastructures , its architecture promotes a state of congestion on all possible levels, and exploits this congestion to inspire and support particular forms of social intercourse that together form a unique culture of congestion”(2).
