Korean Association in Chennai supports vision screening through India Vision Institute India Vision Institute (IVI) announced a new partnership with the Korean Association in Chennai to screen 1000 Children from disadvantaged communities in Chennai for visual impairment due to uncorrected refractive error. The announcement was made by Mr Taehyup Kim, Chairman of the Korean Association in Chennai and Mr Vinod Daniel, CEO of the India Vision Institute, during a vision screening camp at Adi Dravidar Welfare Primary School at Palavakkam, Chennai. Mr R. Viswanathan, Councilor, Chennai Corporation, was present at the ocasssion. At the vision screening program led by IVI, about 100 pairs of spectacles will be distributed free of cost to children diagnosed with refractive errors. The initiative is part of the IVI national campaign to deal with Vision impairment, particularly among children. “Refractive errors are a major cause of blindness and can be easily treated by a pair of spectacles. Support from the Korean Association in Chennai will greatly contribute to improve the quality of life for a number of disadvantaged children especially in the local Palavakkam area by providing them with better vision”, said Mr Vinod Daniel. He added that IVI has already screened about 2500 people and will be involved with screening another 10,000 people especially in Chennai over the next six months. Mr Taehyup Kim was delighted that the Korean expatriate community could make a small difference to the local community through this program. Appreciating the Institute’s initiative towards making a difference to children’s eye health, he extended continued support for the initiative. The Councilor for Palavakkam, Mr T Viswanathan, lauded the IVI initiative focusing on better vision for children, particularly in the local community he represents. IVI recently launched a national campaign: “Eye See I Learn” to provide spectacles to school children from disadvantaged communities. IVI is a not-for-profit trust focused on supporting and promoting awareness, research, education and technological development in Indian optometry to advance capacity in vision correction and prevention of blindness.
