Kostas Mitroglou Reportedly Set for Liverpool Transfer Bid in January Liverpool are set to tempt Olympiacos with a £7 million bid for striker Kostas Mitroglou in the January transfer window, according to reports. The in-form Greek striker—who fired his nation to the World Cup finals with three goals across two legs in the qualifying playoff against Romania—has been the subject of detailed examination from Anfield staff, according to David Maddock of the Daily Mirror: Head of Recruitment Dave Fallows and chief scout Barry Hunter were in Romania to watch the Olympiacos star score a vital goal as the Greeks won a tense play-off. The pair were also in Athens to watch the first leg last week where the 25-year-old turned the tie with two stunning goals to prove his pedigree at the highest level. Anfield’s Head of Performance and Analysis Michael Edwards has also run the rule over the centre forward, with scouts from the club watching his last SIX matches - including an incredible 90th minute winner in the explosive Athens derby, which almost sparked a riot. Mitroglou has been in exceptional form this season and continues to impress across all competitions. The 25-year-old has 13 goals in eight starts and two substitute appearances in this years Greek Super League, as well as three goals in four Champions League ties, per WhoScored. As noted in Maddocks report, the lethal finisher has also racked up six goals in his last seven appearances for the national team and currently has four hat-tricks this campaign—just one less than Ballon dOr favourite Cristiano Ronaldo. Liverpools current strike partnership of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez has produced 16 Premier League goals this season and remains the deadliest relationship in the division. Brendan Rodgers is expected to receive bids for the latter in January, with Real Madrid currently leading the chase, according to Jack Wilson of the Daily Star. Mitroglou is blessed with the same tricky style and can also produce spectacular goals to win matches. Considering the three together is an interesting prospect, especially with the likes of Philippe Coutinho creating chances behind. Rodgers needs to strengthen the depth of his striking options without paying too steeply for any potential target. Liverpool would be in dire need of added firepower if Sturridge or Suarez were to face a long spell on the sidelines, and in todays market, £7 million is a worthwhile price for one of Europes hottest goalscorers. bleacher
