Krakow reveals Winter Olympics logo - 17.03.2014 - Kraków unveiled its potential logo for the 2022 Winter Olympics on Monday, with five cities still left in the running to host the games. With events planned to be divided between Kraków and the Tatra Mountains of Poland and Slovakia, the design incorporates both folk and urban elements. The logo uses Krakóws official colors of blue and white, and the main motif is the so-called parzenica, a ubiquitous folk symbol from the Polish highlands. “Who fails to think of the Tatras when looking at the parzenica?” said Deputy Mayor Magdalena Sroka on Monday. In the center of the design is a square, symbolizing Krakóws Main Market Square. “If Kraków hosts the Winter Olympics, then the medal ceremonies will be on the Main Market Square,” Sroka revealed. The city has invested 80,000 zloty ($26,414 USD) in the logo. Last week, Kraków submitted its official application to host the 2022 games. Still in the running are Almaty (Kazakhstan), Lviv (Ukraine), Oslo (Norway), and Beijing (China). The winner will be announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 31 July 2015.
