Kuki Women Human Rights Organisation press note Office of the Kuki Women Human Rights Organisation (KWHRO) Hq OfficeL Ward No. 1, Moreh, Manipur 795128 Branch office: Tamu Township, Sagaing Division, Myanmar Email: kwhro2013@gmail, kwhro_hq@yahoo Press release September 23,2013 Relocated villagers demand compensation from Indian and Burmese governments for losses incurred due to planned Tamanthi dam Villagers forcibly relocated for the planned Tamanthi dam on the Chindwin river in northwest Burma, are demanding that India and Burma compensate them for loss of their lands and livelihoods now that the dam has been cancelled. Signatures of 192 relocated families demanding compensation were presented today to the Indian Embassy in Yangon and Myanmar’s Ministry of Electric Power No. 1. These families are from two villages, Tazone and Leivomjang, forced in 2007 to move at gunpoint from the Tamanthi dam site to a barren relocation settlement 40 miles downriver. Many became destitute after receiving only 5,000 kyats (US$5) for the loss of their fields and houses, which were bulldozed to make way for the dam. bombiel/media/news/press-release/item/2690-kuki-women-human-rights-organisation-press-note.html
