Kwankwaso finally gets APC’s ticket for Kano Central Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State has finally collected the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to contest the senatorial election for Kano Central, Daily Trust gathered yesterday. This came as the name of the Commissioner of Works Alhaji Abba K. Yusuf, who had earlier won the ticket, was substituted with that of Kwankwaso following weeks of foot-dragging. The substitution brought an end to high current politicking and manoeuvring created by the dropping of the governor’s name for that of Yusuf. Shortly after Kwankwaso was defeated by General Muhammadu Buhari at the APC national convention in Lagos, Yusuf who is the governor’s son in-law, quit the race for his father in-law. But in line with the guideline provided by the Electoral Act, 2010, as amended, on the substitution of candidates, Yusuf’s name was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as APC candidate for Kano Central. However, Yusuf’s name was substituted with that of Kwankwaso late Tuesday in an attempt to beat the INEC deadline on substitution of presidential and National Assembly candidates. Chairman of the party in Kano State Haruna Umar Doguwa in a telephone interview confirmed the development, saying they adhered strictly to the Electoral Act. “We have done all what the Electoral Act stipulates on the substitution of candidate. His Excellency is now our candidate for Kano Central Senatorial District,” he said, adding that they did the substitution in view of Yusuf’s voluntary withdrawal from the race. With the development, Kwankwaso will confront the serving senator, Bashir Lado, who is of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the senatorial elections. DT
