Kwara rural community renovates school with N2.5m ilorin.info/fullnews.php?id=8436 The Oke Ola-Oro community in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara on Tuesday in Ilorin said it had renovated 10 blocks of classrooms and constructed a new administrative block. Alhaji Saliu Kadiri, the communitys chairman, told officials of the Ministry of Education that the project at Jamatul Nasrul Islam Secondary School cost N2.5 million. Kadiri said indigenous philanthropists in the community felt the need to complement government efforts in developing education in the community. The `think tank of Oke Ola-Oro community came together and volunteered to help the school as it was dilapidated and without an administrative block. We cannot continue to rely on government to do everything. So, with the little we have, we joined hands to help our community. The thing to be proud about it now is that other neighbouring communities surrounding us are borrowing the idea from us,he said. Reacting, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, the Director of the states Quality Assurance Bureau (QAB), commended the communitys efforts. He said the diversity of the education sector was such that government alone could not provide all its needs. Abubakar said the collaboration of well-spirited individuals, groups and organisations would be required to take the standard of education to the highest pedestal in the interest of the nation. Through this partnership, which you have demonstrated with this intervention, we are assured that sufficient foundation has been laid to breed the future leaders of the state,he said.(NAN)
