L2B Night run done :) We arrived @ Clapham Common via organised transport around 11:40pm late for our start of 11:30pm. Start was no way as busy as daytime run, lots of flashing lights, high viz vests but not so many people in fancy dress. We were set off in small groups of about 60-ish so we probably crossed the start line about 12:30am! Roads were much quieter with cyclist but busy with cars and people still in pubs shouting words of encouragement, one you lady shouted “what you lot doing?” to which I replied “cycling!” thought it was fairly obvious really. First stop 12 miles in was at Coulsden, where I stopped my watch instead of pause so may have lost the first 12 miles. Had a coffee and cake for energy, Marcus had a hot dog but did let me nibble on his sausage end …. Second stop was just North of Crawley and was very busy so instead of queuing we continued on. Third stop was Burgess Hill after 40 odd miles again long queue for small burger bar so grabbed a bottle of free water and pedalled on. Route then took us over A23 and up Devils Dyke! That hill kept going and going and going, some downhill but massive uphill and I was knackered. Marcus pedalled ahead with his shoe clips giving him energy I was plodding, head down in 1st but kept cycling all the way up. We reached the top to a lovely view of the sun rising over Brighton as we looked and final 5 miles downhill all the way. Finish line was much emptier and we cycled through it, I know I was emotional at such a great achievement. Received our medals all excited that we had achieved the 60 mile L2B Night Run and looked at them and they are exactly same as the daytime ones, we thought they would at least say Night run. Cycled back to car, MacDonald’s on way home and into bed shattered. Marcus sound asleep in spare room I had probably 2 hours and now awake. I will upload the run if I can from watch although battery ran out near end. My mobile also packed up after last Facebook update so it’s currently charging but looks to have got very sweaty so don’t expect any txt today. All in all a different night time experience and glad we achieved it, I may lay out in conservatory and dose.
