#LA: As medical #marijuana legislation gains traction in states, I still believe the federal government should have the final say, but I’m not one to stand in the way of research. Tuesday, Council adopted my resolution in favor of the supporting the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in their research to develop a pharmaceutical version of a cannabis extract used to treat epilepsy and to select UCLA as one of the permitted sites to test the product. Marijuana as it exists today is still very much a drug to me. Besides the other derivatives like hash oil, if marijuana wasn’t a drug, why would armed growers harvest it in a dense forest? Why would people shoot each other over the sale of it? If the research finds the cannabis extract to effectively treat epilepsy, I think it will only benefit the marijuana legislation movement in California, which is not going to be bothered by the federal government’s inaction/indifference to the issue. boston/health/2014/06/03/medical-marijuana-bill-heads-senate-states-consider-legislation/yYM5IIWjDXmrpKLACqvpDK/story.html
