LAST FRI, SEPT 12, WE ENJOYED AN AMAZING GUIDED GET IN TOUCH TOUR IN THE VAN ABBEMUSEUM, CONDUCTED VIVIDLY AND INSPIRINGLY BY DANIEL NEUGEBAUER. We met in the Museum Café where Daniel Neugebauer gave us a clear introduction of the Van Abbemuseum itself as well of the exhibitions we were about to see. The guided tour itself started in the old building and continued into the new wing. His enthusiasm was picked up easily by the GiT spouses who were invited not just to watch the pieces of art, but also reflecting on them, sniffing different smells that guided the paintings and share the stories behind them. End of the tour, Daniel had a challenging suprise for us in the room of DIY.. literally create you own exhibition with real art, which was kept in closed wardrobes. The chosen theme was unsettling friendship. The group then divided itself into sets of two persons. Each pair was invited to choose one (or more) pieces of art from our heart. After a while, each pair had chosen one or more picture frames. After putting on special hand gloves, we could take them out ourselves from the wardrobe and put our own frame on the strips against the expo wall .. So this grew into our own special Get in Touch Exhibition, composed with pieces out of the Van Abbe Collection ..! It was challenging and a lot of fun, but also very inspiring to explain to each other why you chose for that piece .. what was it that has struck you .. Sharing our thoughts was very exciting and aroused some new views and a certain awareness when looking at the images .. Thoughts like the existence of real and unreal and how to find out what is what .. the relation between oneself as number 1) and the others and why that could block friendship .. the surprise of why one picks up precisely that person from a crowd .. is it coincidence and what happens after you connect with each other .. a landscape that symbolized the spacy (and spicy) scenery in which friendship could grow or break down, dependent of the courage to let go .. the distinct contradiction between squared structures and lively animals in that orderly setting, aroused thoughts about the different (unsettling) facets of friendship .. and a beautiful drawn tender picture of two people made one think if it really is what we see or not .. could be, but also could not be at all .. inside and outside .. Very interesting and bright! We wrapped our tour, sitting around the table in front of our own exhibition .. thanking Daniel for his passionate guidance, enjoying the tour and our sharing with each other .. see pics below .. have fun!
