LATE ENTRY BY Joan Riba This is a matted etching of our childhood poodle, “Coco”, by award winning artist, Selma Riba SWA (my mom) This measures approximately 8” x 10”, and is marked “Coco”. Artist Bio My mom, Selma Riba, was a native of Toronto, Canada, and lived in the San Francisco area since 1949. She studied at The Ontario College of Art in Toronto, San Francisco State University, College of San Mateo, San Francisco City College, Skyline College, and privately with Bay Area artists Thomas Leighton and Margery Lester. Riba was a Signature Member of the Society of Western Artists. She was also a member of the Daly City Visual Arts Guild and a member and Past President of the Nob Hill Branch of the National League of American Pen Women. Two of her paintings were chosen to represent North San Mateo County in the Capitol Arts Program exhibits in Washington, D.C. She won many awards for her oil paintings, etchings, and drawings. Among them is the Anna Elizabeth Klumpke First Award in Portraiture at the Society of Western Artists annual show. Her portrait of President John F. Kennedy is on permanent display in the John F. Kennedy School in Daly City. Her works are in private collections in Canada, Australia, Great Britain, and throughout the United States. Several pieces of her art have been donated to Sierra College in Rocklin, CA, for use in the classroom and on display. Currently, an exhibit of portraits is on display in the Sierra College Writing Center.
