LATE UPDATE: Oregon State Police is continuing the investigation of Thursday afternoons fatal traffic crash involving a loaded log truck and sport utility vehicle on Highway 223 about three miles south of Dallas. The highway reopened about 5 p.m. Updated information indicates that at about 1:15 p.m. Thursday, a loaded log truck driven by Robert E. Sweet Jr., 49, from Klamath Falls, was traveling northbound on Highway 223 near milepost 7 when a 2000 Ford Explorer driven by a 64-year-old male crossed the center line and collided nearly head-on with the log truck. The driver of the sport utility vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. His name will be released Friday morning. Sweet and passenger Laura Sales, 48, from Klamath Falls, were not injured. All involved persons were using safety restraints. OSP was assisted at the scene by Polk County Sheriffs Office, Polk County Fire District No. 1 and ODOT. Well update this Friday after we receive an update for OSP.
