LATEST NEWS 0 Delta Poly SUG Executives To Lose Certificates, NYSC Participation 7 hours ago News by Andrew Ikehi Some of the immediate out-gone Executives of Student Union Government (SUG) of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, may stand the risk of losing their certificates as well as participation at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), following their alleged involvements in criminal and fraudulent activities at the Institution. The Rector of the institute, Mrs. Edna Mogekwu who disclosed this yesterday during the inauguration of the new SUG executives said that the out gone Executives of the Union, particularly the President [names withheld] used their tenure to encourage indiscipline, criminality and fraud, which she said were inimical to the progress of the union and the institution. The Rector noted that due to some unsettled issues with the out gone executives, some of them may not be awarded their certificates, just as others may not be allowed to participate in the National Youth Service Corps, [NYSC]. Lamenting the situation, Mogekwu said that since the advent of the Polytechnic, it was during the administration of the pasty executives of the Union that a student was shot dead in the lecture hall while several others who engaged in one crime or the other were bailed contrary to the position of the management of the school in such matters. While decrying the situation, the Institution’s Rector explained that the School administration is still looking into the matters and will come out with a position in due course. The Rector who blamed some staff of the institution for encouraging impunity among the SUG executives, hinted that any executive of the student who allow himself to be used will only have him/herself to blame. Mrs. Mogekwu however enjoined the new SUG executives to carry their co-students along in all their day to day activities, just as she advised them not to see their positions as a means to enrich themselves to the detriment of their colleagues. While commending the former executives of Comrade Chris Obruche for their contributions to the growth of the institution, the Rector hinted that the former president has written his name in gold. “Take for example, Chris Obruche came to the management and told us that he and his executives will want to contribute to the development of the school. They approved one million naira from the SUG account for the school to purchase five thousand palm seedlings. “In order to ensure transparency, I directed the executives to do the purchasing in collaboration of the school farm manager. Today, the school has planted the palm seedlings and they are growing”, she said.
